                                         11/05 Workshop in Delta

Lessons Learned from Recent ARMA Conferences
&
Project Management for Records Managers

Delta in the Fall - what could be better?  An ARMA workshop there, of course, free for wcoARMA members!  Thanks go out to Jolene Nelson, Delta City Clerk/Court Clerk, who hosted a fabulous meeting for us at Bill Heddles Community Center.  After a morning tour of her records program at City Hall, we enjoyed a networking lunch and were then treated to an exceptional live webinar by Mimi Dionne, CRM, PMP, CDIA+, CA.  November is "Project Management Month" and as Records Managers, we are all involved in or manage projects large and small.  Mimi's enthusiasm, expertise, and outright passion for Project Management came through the cloud loud and clear.  Her presentation, delivery, and handouts were extremely helpful, well-received, and most appreciated by our members.  Mimi's encouragement and helpful guidance were matched by a gracious willingness to share her knowledge and experiences.  If anyone is interested in forming a Project Management Study Group, give us a shout!

Next up was Dana Evans, City of Durango Deputy City Clerk/Records Manager, who did a great job sharing her impressions and experiences at the 2009 (Orlando) and 2007 (Baltimore) ARMA International Conferences.  She emphasized helpful lessons learned at Dr. Mark Langemo's two-day 2007 preconference seminar titled "Records & Information Management: The Fundamentals."  Handouts and presentations from the last three conferences (2008 Las Vegas) were shared and are now available via our Chapter Library.  Dana's enthusiasm whetted our appetite for next year's conference in San Francisco - great job Dana!!

                         10/09 "2nd Friday Lunch & Learn Webinar"

"Information Management - Preserve or Perish; Destroy or Drown"

Presenter of our debut luncheon webinar was Robert Brownstone, Esq., Law & Technology Director at Fenwick & West LLP in Mountain View, CA.  Robert is a fellow ARMA member!  He has a deep understanding of RIM best practices and procedures, and is happy to share them!  This was a 60-minute recorded webinar with handouts, followed by group discussion + Q/A.  Concise, helpful, and current - especially his cautionary suggestions about electronic mail messages.

                                             09/17 Kickoff Meeting

"Navigating Your RM Career in Troubled Times"

Our kickoff meeting at Western Colorado Community College was, by all accounts, a success!  Thirty-one members and guests enjoyed two presentation sessions, a brief chapter meeting, and lunch.  We were delighted to have eight County Clerk & Recorders in attendance, and honored to have Doug Allen, President of ARMA International, as our keynote speaker.  Doug's presentation, "Selling Yourself to Sr. Management" was informative and thought-provoking as well as entertaining.  A helpful and stimulating panel presentation on "RIM Educational & Training Opportunities in Western Colorado" wrapped up the day.  Good food, good folks, and good information!

                      05/15/09 Opening Chapter Meeting

26 members & guests were on hand for the historic May 15th Opening Chapter Meeting at Two Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction.  We adopted our Chapter By-Laws, approved the Membership Dues Schedule, and elected Chapter Officers.  Sheila Isaacson, Midwest/Rocky Mountain Region Manager, conducted the Board Installation.  Trevor Mitchell, ARMA International Sr. Manager of Member Services, presented the Chapter Charter.  Click here to check out the photos or by clicking on Photo Galleries above.  It was an exciting start, and we look forward to many good things in the coming months!

Special thanks to the following folks for their generous financial support:

Stephens, CRM.
  • Mile High/Denver Chapter:  Mollie Taggart, an enthusiastic founding member of WCOARMA and this year's President of the Mile High/Denver ARMA Chapter, on behalf of the MHD Chapter, paid more than $550 to cover the cost of the luncheon and room rental.
  • Midwest/Rocky Mtn Region:  Provided a grant of $500 to help WCOARMA get off to a sound financial start.
  • ARMA International:  Provided a grant of $400 to help with Chapter attendance at the upcoming Leadership Conference Estes Park.
